Description
This is a flagship wine for Ben, who has 1.5 of the 2.2 hectares of Chardonnay available. His hunch that higher vineyards will become more important with climate change is paying off. This wine is steely with a spicy, mineral grip. There are some 60-year-old vines and Ben’s used various ageing vessels, including a glass wine globe and new egg-shaped foudre.

Allen Meadows 90-93/100

Once again, a trace of exotic fruit lurks in the background of the markedly more floral-suffused scents of white peach, citrus confit, and lychee. The medium-bodied flavours have excellent volume and density, rich to the point of opulence while maintaining a fine balance on the nicely dry and chalky finale. This could easily be enjoyed young or successfully cellared for up to a decade. Drink 2030

From vines farmed but not owned. Clear pale lemon. Ripe apples, a light lemon rinse, then a very steely core through the middle, full of energy, racy and stylish at the same time, with a fine long finish. Racked to foudre to finish its elevage. Drink 2028 - 2035

This delicious Meursault Premier Cru has retained a gratifying freshness even in this hot year from the top of the slope lower elevations are planted to Pinot Noir). Its notes of lemon peel, flint, and fresh white flowers are overlaid with a smoky, reductive quality. The texture is lively and bright; the wine was finished in foudre on the fine lees to preserve its fresh appeal. The grapes come from Leroux’s 1.7ha of Chardonnay at almost 360m. Drink 2025 - 2045
