With decades of experience working with Zinfandel grown in California’s most historic and prestigious vineyards, the winemaker has developed a deep understanding of how to bring out the very best in this varietal. The goal was clear: to find a vineyard that offered all the essential elements for producing wines of the highest quality—dry farming, old vines, and exceptional soil. That vision came to life at Zabaco Rancho Vineyard.
The cool climate of 2023 delayed ripening, pushing harvest from the usual late August into mid-October. This extended growing season allowed for optimal flavor development, fully matured seeds, and deeper color concentration, resulting in a wine of remarkable beauty. It reveals a vivid mineral character with hints of mint—an expression only possible from old vines—alongside exotic spice and firm tannins that promise graceful aging over the next decade.
