2024 Dolcetto d'Alba, Fontanazza, Marcarini, Piedmont, Italy

Description
While tasting this wine, Andrea mused that in the 1990s, the bulk price for Dolcetto was higher than for Nebbiolo. Today, Dolcetto is fighting to hold on to its hectarage, where Nebbiolo can now be planted. This could be the case here, because the vines are in the cooler corners of La Serra and Brunate, but Manuel has no intention of replanting. The wine is raised only in stainless steel, but has a richer texture than many, testament to the stronger soils on which it is grown. This displays notes of rich plum and a hint of cassis, with a deliciously long finish.
