Description
This is a careful blend of four Barbaresco vineyards: San Cristoforo, Currà, Straderi, and the new Albesani cru, all located within the Neive commune. Here, we can see a cross-section of Neive’s terroir, as well as a full picture of the brilliant vintage. Both Straderi and San Cristoforo have Tortonian, calcareous soils which give complex aromatics, fine tannins and mineral definition.
The sandier clay soils of Currà and Albesani fill out the palate with tender fruit charm and sweeter floral details. After being matured in mixed oak for 12 months, this has emerged a compact, complete Barbaresco. With a perfumed, mentholated nose, its chiselled and chalky tannins are wrapped in peach skin and blood orange notes. Due to the character of the vintage, this is more classical and austere than releases of years past.

Kerin O'Keefe 95/100
Smooth, savory and stunning, the 2021 Barbaresco from Francesco Versio entices with its aromas of wild red berry, brown culinary spice, blue flower and camphor. All about finesse, it’s also utterly delicious, delivering ripe raspberry, red cherry, star anise and bitter almond while a saline mineral note lingers on the finish. Polished tannins and fresh acidity keep it balanced. Drink 2027 - 2033
