Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru has a slight touch of Brettanomyces on the nose, though not as acute as others. However, there is some pleasant open-knit red berry fruit here. There's an odd cordial scent that emerges with time. The palate is quite rustic with coarse tannins, sour cherry, and raspberry. Due to some prominent wood tannins, it is quite hard towards the dry finish. So-so. Drink 2024 - 2032
It's more red than purple. The nose is quite sweet, with a liqueur cherry aroma and some blackcurrant leaf. This starts to change quite quickly to add more depth and a slightly more savoury touch. The palate has shades of the Linctus cough mixture. We have not otherwise seen many red cherries in the 2018s. Drink from 2026
