The British Pavilion's exterior is inspired by the work of Ada Lovelace, the world's first programmer, and is constructed from aluminium wire that evokes the punch cards used in early computing machines.
Lovelace proposed the revolutionary hypothesis that by incorporating punch cards, computers could be programmed for uses beyond numerical calculations.
The aluminium strands are woven together in a nod to the 19th century textile innovations of Osaka and Manchester.
Additionally, its appearance resembles stacked building blocks, representing the notion that small ideas come together to form great ideas.
